At NCORE, our hearts are heavy with sympathy for the people of Hawai‘i as they confront the vast and devastating damage from wildfires which were fueled by hurricane-force winds and severe drought. Deadly fires on the island of Maui severely damaged the historic town of Lāhainā, which was formerly the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Many displaced people are temporarily housed in the Hawai‘i Convention Center on the island of O‘ahu, where NCORE 2024 will be held this Spring.
We have been communicating with our partners in the Native Hawaiian community, and they have recommended the following mutual aid organizations for those who would like to support relief efforts:

We ask our shared community of NCORE to consider ways you can support the relief efforts by helping those directly impacted by this tragedy.
As we continue to process the gravity of what has happened and bear witness to what is unfolding, we also continue our planning to bring NCORE to Hawai‘i. This will be connected to our efforts to deeply understand, build community, and develop a program that honors the place and the relationships we are forming there.
Amid these heartbreaking and uncertain times, we stand in solidarity with the Hawaiian community, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this crisis.
With love and concern for our Hawai‘i family,
NCORE Staff
